Steps

  1. Compare the names
Compare the name on your certificate with the name on your Aadhaar. DigiLocker checks that names match to protect access to your personal documents.
    Open this page
  2. Ask for the certificate record correction
Ask the board or university that issued your certificate to correct the name in its records to match your Aadhaar.
  3. Ask for the DigiLocker data update
Ask the same board or university to update the certificate data it sends to DigiLocker.
  4. After the last step
Once your institution updates the data, try getting your certificate through DigiLocker again.
If you still cannot access it, contact DigiLocker support online or by email if you do not use the online request service.
For a CBSE migration certificate, the related guide “CBSE Migration Certificate: no hard copy, use DigiLocker” explains what to do next.

Raju's example: different names on his certificate and Aadhaar

For example, Raju is a shop worker whose academic certificate says “Raju Kumar” but whose Aadhaar says “Raju Kumar Sharma”. He tries to fetch his certificate in DigiLocker, but the name mismatch stops it from being found.

  1. Compare the names Raju checks his certificate and Aadhaar and spots the differ…
  2. Ask for a record correction He asks the board or university that issued his certificate…
  3. Ask for the DigiLocker update He also asks the same board or university to update the cert…

Raju must get the correction made by his board or university; he cannot edit the issued document himself in DigiLocker. The correction fee and time are not stated.

The official rule: If the name on an academic certificate differs from Aadhaar, ask the issuing board or university to correct its records to match Aadhaar and update the data it sends to DigiLocker. Users cannot change issued documents themselves.

Raju and his figures are an example; the rule is the official one.

What you need

  • Board or university name
Correction fee not stated

Where to find it

If something goes wrong

Trying to edit the certificate yourself
You cannot change certificates supplied by institutions; ask the organisation that issued your certificate to correct it.
Expecting a separate student correction account
You do not need to register separately with the National Academic Depository; your institution is still responsible for correcting your certificate.
Your institution is missing from DigiLocker
Your institution appears in DigiLocker after it publishes certificate data, so ask whether it has published the data before treating this as a spelling problem.
Someone asks for your OTP (One-Time Password) or password
Never share an OTP or password with anyone who calls or messages you; use the official helpdesk for your query.
