NSP Aadhaar face check failed: fix Error 904 (2026)

If the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) shows Error 904 during the face check, update the Aadhaar Face RD (Early Access) Application.

Steps

  1. Open the Play Store on your phone
    On your Android phone, search for Aadhaar Face RD (Early Access) Application and pick the one from UIDAI. The update button is on its page.

  2. Tap Update
    NSP suggests this update when you see Error 904.

  3. Open Lock/Unlock Biometrics
    Find it in the Aadhaar App, or use the myAadhaar website.

  4. Set your face, fingerprints and eye scan
    Choose "Unlocked" for each of the three.
  5. After the last step
    Before you carry on in "NSP OTR APP" (for One Time Registration), check that your face, fingerprints and eye scan are Unlocked, as described above.
    When your face check works, go back to NSP and continue your One Time Registration.

    If you prefer help in person, find a Common Service Centre (CSC) near you. The CSC locator at locator.csccloud.in could not be checked.

What you need

  • Not listed on the official page
Free — online One Time Registration (OTR) on NSP, stated on the official page “NSP : National Scholarship Portal” (https://scholarships.gov.in). This is not a fee for the face check fix.
₹30 — NSP service at a Common Service Centre (CSC); stated on scholarships.gov.in. Pay only at the official CSC.

If something goes wrong

Keep your OTP and password private
Never share your OTP (one-time password) or password with anyone who calls or messages you. Type your private details only on the official service.
Face check fails but there is no Error 904
Open the myAadhaar website or the "Aadhaar App". If your face, fingerprints and eye scan are locked, unlock them with "Lock/Unlock Biometrics" before the face check.
The update did not fix the problem
Before you continue in "NSP OTR APP" (for One Time Registration), check that your face, fingerprints and eye scan are Unlocked, as described above. Then try the face check again.
You cannot use your Aadhaar-linked mobile
You need that mobile to use "Lock/Unlock Biometrics". Updating a missing Aadhaar-linked mobile is a separate task.
